Google can not delete illegal Danish data

Somewhere in Belgium is perhaps still a disc with illegal Danish data that Google has unlawfully intercepted by scanning the open wireless network with Street View cars. The data can not be deleted yet, and nobody knows when.

It shows up minutes from a meeting between Google and the Data Inspectorate.

“Google said that there has not yet been clarified in all countries that wanted to see and preserve data. Deletion of the last available data that may also include data from Denmark, has not yet occurred and it can not be said with certainty when that might take place, “writes the Data Protection Agency of the minutes from 8 October.

While Denmark has merely called the data erased, countries such as France, Britain, Greece, Ireland and Spain wanted to look at Google’s illegal sniffing closer. The Danish data authority has accepted the explanation that other countries should have the opportunity to examine the disk untouched – and that any Danish data can not be deleted.

A French study reported this summer that Google sniffed both emails and passwords with their Street View cars, and Google has also since admitted that they sniffed personal data like emails.

When the Data Inspectorate accepts Google explanation on the disc in Belgium, because it is also uncertainty about the data.

“There we emphasize that in fact we do not know whether there is a Danish data and if so, it will surely be quite a bit,” says director of the Data Inspectorate Janni Christoffersen.

Google IO – 2010

It’s been a fantastic week in San francisco. We arrived the 17 / 6 after which we had just a few days to get over the flight.

Google IO is a major conference for google developers who want to keep up with everything new from google.

Personally I wanted to get a lot of new knowledge about maps and some of the Java part.

The biggest news was enough Google Maps v3 which has gone from beta to production. Version 3 is prepared for mobile devices.

It is also important to mention that google street view now works without the flash.

After the conference me and my college Esben rented a car and had a few days around and it was a great experience to see the United States.
